Spikenard, built for the Royal Navy,  was laid down on February 24, 1940, at the Davie Shipbuilding yards at Lauzon, Quebec. She was launched on August 10, 1940 and commissioned into the Royal Canadian Navy on May 15, 1941, with Pennant number K 198.
She made three round trips to Iceland and in February 1942 was torpedoed by U 136, south of Iceland. There were only 8 survivors.
Photograph one, circa 1942 and shows an overall waterline port bow view.
Item two is an 8 x 10 colour statistics sheet  general characteristics, and  the ensigns she proudly flew. The ‘badge” is from a photograph of a spike the ships Captain drove into the floor of the Crow’s Nest in Newfoundland, the night before she made her final voyage.
