Description
You are bidding on an 8 x 10 black and white copy of HMCS Barrie K 138 the Flower Class Corvette of the ( 1939-1940 ) Program, which served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1941 to 1945.Barrie was laid down on April 4, 1940, at Collingwood Shipyards, Collingwood, Ontario. She was launched on November 23, 1940, and commissioned into the Royal Canadian Navy on May 12, 1941, with pennant K 138.
Like her sister corvettes she served on convoy escorts in the Battle of Atlantic. She twice rescued survivors from torpedoed merchantman, and was paid off in 1945. Sold into the Argentine merchant service, she transferred to the Argentine Navy, serving until she was broken up in 1972.
Photograph one, is undated and shows an overall waterline port beam view.
Item two is an 8 x 10 colour statistics sheet showing the ships crest, general characteristics, callsign, trivia and the ensigns she proudly flew.
Item three is an 8 x 10 colour with a short history of the Barrie , complete with a list of her Commanding Officers, and a May 1942 crew photo.
