They are hand made of all natural materials and assembled on Kyoto
’
s Yanaginobanba street, famous as the center of the ancient art of Japanese lantern making. An iconic symbol of Gion.
They measure 28cm X 30cm (11" X 12") and are made in the traditional way with a lacqured bamboo top and bottom. It includes a wire at the top for hanging. It is easy to rig it with a small lightbulb for a dramatic touch at night.
Note: if used outdoors, it should be under a roof - in Gion, the lanterns often have their own conical, black sheet-metal 'roof' to keep them dry.
The design comes from the famous 'Dango' sweets of Gion which are made of rubbery rice, shaped in balls of 3 colors: usually pink, green & white, served on a stick.

2) Standard Air Registered (INCLUDES TRACKING) but has a less predictable delivery time.

Note that due to reduced flights, JAPAN POST has suspended Air Parcel service to the USA, Australia and a few other countries (Europe is not effected). It is not known how long this will last but in the meantime, we are using JAPAN POST SURFACE mail which has tracking and insurance but can take about 60 days to the USA.
Alternatively, for an additional charge, YAMATO INTERNATIONAL offers extremely fast door to door service for a flat-rate for their various size boxes. The smallest “60cm” box is to most countries, can hold up to two kg and measures 27 X 19 X 19cm and arrives in about a week.
