    Description

Laguna LT18 bandsaw with extras, including Driftmaster Fence. Condition is "Used".
Up for your consideration is a
    Laguna Tools LT18 bandsaw
    .
I bought this directly from Laguna some 10 years ago. It has had very light hobbyest usage. It is in excellent condition and includes several extras. As this saw is heavy (500 pounds) I cannot ship it. The buyer will have to arrange for pick up and delivery.
This is a large bandsaw that excels in cutting wood into veneers, although it can do general cutting as well. The maximum width that can be cut is just under 17 inches. The maximum height is 19 inches. A gauge shows the tension that has been put on the saw blade.
The motor is a Baldour 4-1/2 horsepower monster. This gives enough power to saw the largest veneers and do general resawing. It needs to be connected to its own 30 amp circuit. I will include the electrical circuit box with a circuit breaker for free.
The blade is kept in line by ceramic guides, which are able to be carefully adjusted to reduce blade wobble. There is a dust collection chute and a brush for the lower wheel. The wheels are heavy cast iron and balanced. I installed a urethane replacement tire on the lower wheel several years ago. The two doors are tied together, and will shut off the motor if opened during use. There is a brake pedal that instantly shuts off the motor while the wheels can be braked to a quick stop for safety.
The top blade guides can be easily raised or lowered by a lockable crank. The heavy cast iron table can be angled up to 15 degrees in one direction. There is a removable plastic guard that surrounds the blade at the table level. A knob allows for adjustment of the blade location on the wheels.
The controls feature a switch to turn on and off the saw motor. There is an emergency stop red switch above the on-off switch, as well as the foot brake. Any tools or wrenches that came with the saw will be included in this auction.
As to extras, there is a mobility base. This is a large lever on wheels that can be brought to the saw and lift the front so as to move and guide it.
The saw also includes the optional
    Driftmaster Fence
, which is a Laguna exclusive. This fence allows one to use a crank to advance the fence an exact predetermined distance so as to cut multiple sheets of veneer each the exact same thickness as all the others. Instead of trying to cut thin sheets of wood between the fence and blade, the veneer is cut from the outside of the piece of wood, which is much safer. The Driftmaster Fence is easily adjusted for blade drift and locked at the correct setting. It is reversible from being a tall fence to being a short fence where for thin stock the upper blade guides can be lowered to the very top of the piece being sawed.
The Driftmaster Fence also has a release lever that allows it to slide freely in either direction when not being used to cut veneers, so as to be used as a regular fence.
The original fence that came with the saw before the Driftmaster Fence was installed, will also be included in this auction.
The 4-1/2 hp Baldour motor is connected to power by a massive plug. The outlet that it plugs into will be available as a freebie.
The bandsaw comes with 7 blades, all in good condition:
    1.    The
    Laguna ResawKing
, which is 1-3/16" wide and has two teeth per inch (“tpi”). This blade has
    carbide tips
attached, which allow for cutting hardwoods and longevity. This was an expensive optional blade purchased from Laguna at the time I purchased the bandsaw. This can be resharpened at some point in the future if needed.
    2.    Highland Hardware’s
    “The Slicer,”
which is my favorite all around blade. This blade is 3/4" wide with 3 tpi.
    3.     5/8" wide blade, 4 tpi.
    4.    A 3/8" wide blade, 3 tpi.
    5.    A 1/4" wide blade, 6 tpi.
    6.    A 3/16" wide blade, 10 tpi.
    7.    A 1/8" wide blade, 10 tpi.
An owner’s manual for the saw, and an owner’s manual for the Driftmaster Fence are included.
This is an ideal band saw for the serious wood working shop. It is manufactured in Italy. When shipped to Laguna in California, they add the American made Baldour motor and their unique Laguna ceramic guides and their branding.
Several years ago, I bought a set of refill ceramic guides, which I never had to use, and which are also included. The original guides are still in great shape. On the thinner blades listed above, 1/4" and thinner, I would recommend using “Cool Blocks,” which surround small blades to keep them steady. No Cool Blocks are included in this auction, but are worth a mention. Cool Blocks for this machine can be ordered from Laguna Tools.
This saw can be used for cutting large blocks of wood as well as for small work. It is an all-around winner. If you are a turner, this saw is perfect for cutting rectangular blocks into circles prior to lathe mounting.
